Instruction Packet for gathering signatures

The Save Our Land Citizen's Committee reports that the County has invalidated over HALF of the 9,000 signatures already gathered but has allowed more time to collect new signatures or correct ones that have been excluded from the count. July 14th is the new target! See below:

We need only 800 more signatures AND we have to be very vigilant as to HOW people sign.

Most of the signatures were invalidated for:

1. lack of proper date- Necessary: date, month and YEAR
2. Proper street address= number. Street name. and ST. RD. CT. HGWY
3. SIGNATURE AND PRINTED NAME in the right boxes
4. Everything else (Birthdate and social security number) is optional.

On July 14th we will be notarizing and collecting petitions at:

1. Waimea: Starbucks
2. Kona: Jamba Juice KTA
3. Na'alehu: Community Center
4. Hilo: law office of Marty Berger p

This is IT! For the fund to make it to the ballot we need to turn in just over 3,000 valid signatures on July 14 to make it -- yours could put us over the top!

RULES FOR SIGNATURES:

1. First, ask the question: Are you are registered to vote in Hawai‘i County?
2. If you don’t know the person please ask to see a photo ID.
3. It would be best if you, the signature gatherer, fill out the petition in clear, neat print based on the ID and their answers.
4. Ask them: What name is on your voter registration application?
5. Also ask: What street address did you use on the voter registration form?
6. The birth date and last 4 numbers of the Social Security number are optional information, but they will help the County clerk verify signatures and be the difference between a signature that gets counted and one that doesn’t.
7. Have a cell phone with you and call the elections office at 961-8277 to verify a voter’s address information in they are unsure.
8. The affidavit on the back of the petition MUST be signed in front of a notary. Bring completed petitions to one of the sites above on June 15th for notarization and collection.

For Your Information: The Elections Commissioner looks at the name and address to match the voter registration application. If there is a slight discrepancy, they will go to the birth date and social security numbers to verify.
